The First One

Hey everyone, my name is Ryan and I am a college student in Southern California, at Moorpark College to be particular. I am the student body president in the Associated Students. I have never had a blog before, though I have had facebook, etc.

I have decided to start this blog to comment about what is going on in the world and to reflect on what has been going on in my life.

This is a tumultuous era, rife with opining about bailouts, healthcare, large dysfunctional families (Ahem, John and Kate), and kids in balloons. It is hard to make sense of the modern situation in the world, but engaging at the same time.

First, I would like to give you a short autobiography. I was born in the Detroit Area, and moved to Moorpark, California when I was 10. My education so far has been quite varied, as I have attended, both public and private schools, and I also was homeschooled. In December 2008, I was the youngest candidate for the Moorpark City Council in the special appointment of an open spot.
In addition, I was also the News Editor at the Student Voice newspaper in the Ventura County Community College District. I currently am in my Sophomore year at Moorpark College, a State run Community College. As President of the Associated Students, I routinely encounter news that yet another state program in education is cut due to California's fiscal malaise. This is a sad fact, as I believe that education should be the state's #1 priority. After all, we are the future!

Today was a busy day---I had classes all morning, and at the conclusion of philosophy, I headed over and posted the agenda for this week's Associated Student's meeting---it has become a Monday "ritual" for me! I went with my vice president, Mike, over to Costco and got pizzas for a inter club council meeting----there were about 8 people in line and they made us wait in it although the pizza was already done! Oh well.

Well, more to come!
